Leyla ile Mecnun (Leyla and Mecnun) is a Turkish television comedy series. The series, set in Istanbul and directed by Onur Ünlü , premiered in 2011 on TRT . It is a surreal, absurdist comedy revolving around the parody of the poetic love story of Layla and Majnun .

A young woman, Leyla, boards a train to Izmir without a ticket. She finds herself sharing a coupé with Ali, a talkative and social young lawyer, on his way to interrupt his ex-girlfriend Burcu's wedding. The two get of to a bumpy start, but as Leyla finds herself in trouble for not having a ticket, Ali decides to help her stay aboard.
On 1 August the cast and crew came together to go over the scenario and on 2 August the first promotional videos were recorded in Tuzla. [6] The first promotional video was released on 6 August. The other screenwriter, Melek Gençoğlu, later announced that he would stop working on the series after the 8th episode. [ 7 ]
