Founded in 1902, St. Benedict School in 1950 expanded to include a high school. In February 2017 St. Benedict Preparatory School announced it would be closing its high school. The last graduating class was in June 2019. [1] St. Benedict Preparatory will continue its mission to serve families with Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 children.

[5]In 1899, the tuition charged to residents of River Forest and Maywood going to Oak Park High School was raised, prompting the students from those towns to move their students to Austin High.
The original school was located on Vernon Avenue in Glencoe, IL. The second location was in Niles, IL. The school is a member of the Illinois High School Association and the Independent Schools' League.
