The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is the state-owned broadcaster in Zimbabwe. It was established as the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation ( RBC ), taking its current name in 1980. Like the RBC before it, the ZBC has been accused of being a government mouthpiece with no editorial independence .
In July 2013, Rumbidzai Takawira started anchoring an early morning news bulletin on ZBC TV called Good Morning Zimbabwe and from May 2014 to February 2020 she became the leading anchor on the prime time News Hour bulletin (now the Main News) at 8 pm. [9] As her popularity grew, she was given the name "News Bae" by viewers through social media.
ZBC started broadcasting a second television channel, TV2, available only in Harare, [6] in 1986. [7]ZBC signed an agreement on 13 May 1997 to utilise the frequencies of the second channel, to Flame Lily Broadcasting, a private company, to operate Joy TV, broadcasting from 17:00 to 22:30 daily. [8]
