Casa Grande was founded in 1879 during the Arizona mining boom, specifically due to the presence of the Southern Pacific Railroad. In January 1880, the community of Terminus, meaning "end-of-the-line," was established despite consisting of just five residents and three buildings. [7]
The Casa Grande Union High School – was built in 1920 and is located at 510 E. Florence Boulevard. The building now serves as the Casa Grande City Hall. NRHP listed in 1986, reference #86000821. The Casa Grande Garage – was built in 1922 and is located at 117 N. Sacaton St. it is listed in the Casa Grande Historic Register.
Now unsigned for the rest of its length, SR 84 continues south on 2nd Street and Casa Grande Avenue. At a traffic circle with Main Street in downtown Casa Grande, unsigned SR 84 heads southeast on Jimmie Kerr Boulevard and Casa Grande-Picacho Highway. The route continues through Arizola past I-10 Exit 198 into Toltec and Eloy.
It is located on a corner lot facing a major intersection in downtown Casa Grande, centrally located within the original town site. Valley National was one of the first banks in the state to open branches in its smaller communities. In 1934, the bank opened its first branch in town; this location was in use until 1991.
In 1891, the monument underwent repairs supervised by Cosmos Mindeleff of the Bureau of American Ethnology, until funds ran out.Proclaimed Casa Grande Reservation on June 22, 1892 by Executive Order 28-A of President Benjamin Harrison, 480 acres around the ruins became the first prehistoric and cultural reserve in the United States. Ramon Cruz, Sr., was a well-known Casa Grande businessman. After operating a trading post in Sacatan he moved to Casa Grande in 1905 and opened a trading post. After his death in 1924, his sons continued the family business for man years. Cruz was a respected Casa Grande citizen and a member of the first elementary school board.
