In the account of Terah's family mentioned in the Book of Genesis (Genesis 11:26–32), Nahor II (Hebrew: נָחוֹר – Nāḥōr) is listed as the son of Terah, amongst two other brothers, Abram and Haran . His grandfather was Nahor I, son of Serug. Nahor married the daughter of his brother Haran, Milcah, his niece .
Terah is mentioned in Genesis 11:26–32 as a son of Nahor, the son of Serug, descendants of Shem. [6] He is said to have had three sons: Abram (better known by his later name Abraham), Haran, and Nahor II, and one daughter: Sarai (better known by her later name Sarah). The family lived in Ur of the Chaldees.
Ibn Ezra wrote in his commentary on Gen. 11:29 that Haran, Milcah's father, was a different person from Haran, Abraham's brother. Milcah was married to Nahor, who was also a brother of Abraham. Under Ibn Ezra's interpretation Milcah's husband was not also her uncle. [14]

After Haran died in Ur of the Chaldees 'before his father Terah', his family travelled towards Canaan, the Promised Land. However, Terah stopped at Charan (or Haran [Hebrew חָרָן, Ḥārān]) and settled there, as did Nahor and Milcah, whereas Lot accompanied Abraham and others onwards to Canaan. [5] [6]
Bethuel's uncle Abraham sent his senior servant to Paddan Aram to find a wife for his son Isaac. By the well outside of Nahor in Aram-Naharaim, the servant met Bethuel's daughter Rebecca. The servant told Rebecca's household his good fortune in meeting Bethuel's daughter, Abraham's relative.
Although Abram's nephew Lot accompanied him to Canaan, Terah and his other descendants remained in Paddan-Aram. [10] The region of Haran is referred to variously as Paddan Aram and Aram-Naharaim. In Genesis 28:10–19, Abraham's grandson Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. Along the way he had his dream of Jacob's Ladder.
