The album was certified gold on August 12, 1969, platinum and double platinum on November 21, 1986, and triple platinum on March 27, 2003, by the RIAA .

B. B. King (1925–2015) was an American blues musician whose recording career spanned 1949–2008. As with other blues contemporaries, King's material was primarily released on singles until the late 1950s–early 1960s, when long playing record albums became more popular.
"A Boy Named Sue" is a song written by Shel Silverstein and made famous by Johnny Cash. Cash recorded the song live in concert on February 24, 1969, at California's San Quentin State Prison for his At San Quentin album. Cash also performed the song (with comical variations on the original performance) in December 1969 at Madison Square Garden.
