Hendrik Pienaar Hofmeyr (born 20 November 1957) is a South African composer. [1] [2] [3] Born in Cape Town, he furthered his studies in Italy during 10 years of self-imposed exile as a conscientious objector. [4] While there, he won the South African Opera Competition with The Fall of the House of Usher.
Khumalo has been featured at festivals and competitions in South Africa as well. He was the runner-up in the 2006 SAMRO overseas scholarship competition [ 13 ] and featured at a number of NewMusicSA 's New Music Indabas, [ 14 ] the Sterkfontein Composers Meeting, [ 7 ] and the Grahamstown National Arts Festival.
NewMusicSA is a non-profit arts advocacy organisation that promotes the creation, performance, and enjoyment of South African new music. Founded in 1999 and operating formally since 2003, NewMusicSA is the South African section (and current only African section) of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM).
