During their ninth orbit of the Moon astronauts Bill Anders , Jim Lovell , and Frank Borman recited verses 1 through 10 of the Genesis creation narrative from the King James Bible . [ 1 ]

Borman introduced the crew, followed by each man giving his impression of the lunar surface and what it was like to be orbiting the Moon. Borman described it as being "a vast, lonely, forbidding expanse of nothing". [79]
In December 1968, he was a member of the crew of Apollo 8, the first three people to leave low-Earth orbit and travel to the Moon. Along with fellow astronauts Frank Borman and Jim Lovell, he circled the Moon ten times, and broadcast live images and commentary back to Earth, including the Christmas Eve Genesis reading.
Borman, along with his fellow astronauts James Lovell and William Anders, were the first manned Apollo mission to fly to the moon and circle it 10 times, nearly 60 miles above the surface.
