Avon (/ ˈ eɪ v ɒ n / AY-von [5]) is a city in northeastern Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,847 at the 2020 census . It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area .
Avon High School is a public high school for grades 9–12 located in Avon, Ohio, United States. Athletic teams are known as the Eagles and play in the Southwestern Conference as of the 2018–2019 school year. [3] The current Avon High School opened in 1998, located on 37 acres of land on Detroit Road.
As of the 2023–24 school year, the district, comprised of one school, had an enrollment of 119 students and 18.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 6.4:1. [1] During the 2016–17 school year, Avon was tied with the 23rd smallest enrollment of any school district in the state, with 158 students. [7]
Previously, the school district had Latin language courses, but in 2008 it no longer had a teacher for them, and could not find one. [7] In 2004 repairs were done to the middle-high school. The district had to use two churches and Randolph High School as space to house students while the repairs occurred. [8]
Avon Lake High School was ranked 170th in the nation by Newsweek Magazine in 2015. [12] In 2011, Avon Lake City Schools were also recognized by Workplace Dynamics and the Cleveland Plain Dealer as the 8th best among "Northeast Ohio Top Workplaces" in the large companies category (companies with 500 or more local employees).
