The 2012 Great Britain and Ireland floods had brought severe flooding to the Somerset Levels. During December 2013 and January 2014 heavy rainfall led to extensive flooding on the Somerset Levels with over 600 houses and 17,000 acres (6,900 ha) of agricultural land, including North Moor , Curry and Hay Moors and Greylake , affected.
There are six flood warnings, meaning flooding is expected, in place for Somerset, 12 for Wiltshire, eight for Gloucestershire and one for Bristol, said the Environment Agency.
Somerset Council leader Bill Revans said it had been a "difficult night" for everyone affected. "There's always more that the council could have done in advance," he continued.
