One little hint - if you like the L100 Classic's sound but balk at the $4K asking price (I did!) check out the 4312G Control Monitor. Weighs just a few pounds lighter (a bit less internal cabinet bracing) comes finished in the standard JBL black as opposed to walnut veneer and sculptured foam grille, has a woofer that's just a little lighter ...
The L100, among others in the JBL lineup, are basically 1970's era furniture that happen to make sound when hooked up to a stereo system. If you look at them that way, they sound pretty good. The main drawback of the L100 is the size of the cabinet, it is too small for the 123A woofer. Last edited: Aug 15, 2023.
The L100 is the consumer or "home" version of the 4310/11 monitor. As you. probably already know, a very popular speaker back in the day, and very. sought after if in anywhere near decent shape, driver re-coning is an issue. but whatever, it's just maintance. I've seen so so 4311's go for $350-$450,
Things I loved from the 60's and 70's. Subscriber. Feb 2, 2022. #1. I own a pair of KLH Fives and a pair of JBL L-88P speakers upgraded to L100’s. I used the L100’s for almost ten years and thought I was very happy. Five years ago I got a terrific CL bargain on the Fives. I replaced any bad drivers and recappedthem.
JBL describes the L16 and L26 in a 1974 brochure as "economy and beauty in compact bookshelf loudspeakers". The L36 as "The leader of the Decade family". The Decade series was designed to compete at specific pricepoints. all below that of the L100. I believe that the L100 and members of the 4311/4312 family would represent "a step up".
90db is highly efficient, perhaps, why JBL says the L100's can be enjoyed from a 20 watt amp. I have powered my 8 ohm L100t3's with amps delivering 5o to 560 watts per channel and I've got to tell ya I had no perception that 50 watts was too little power. Sterling1, Sep 8, 2021. #11.
Aug 31, 2020. #6. Yes, but the fact that New grilles are larger means there is some possibility the New foam inserts could be trimmed down to the size of the Old foam inserts. Hate to be the guinea pig on that though as the L100 Classic (new) grilles are $325/pair. Nice that they come with replacement badges too!
Compared to my recapped and modified JBL L-80T3, the HPM-100 definitely play louder at the same volume setting. I will be conducting more tests once I recap the HPM-100 and add some more acoustic insulation. I haven’t heard the JBL-100, however from my point of view I will keep the speakers that I have.
Nov 3, 2012. #2. Yeah they are quite different. The L100 has more "classic" value and usually sells for more, but is an older speaker using older tech components compared to the L112. Among the biggest differences are the tweeter. The L112 uses the 044 dome tweeter while the L100 uses an older paper cone tweeter.
It's been generally accepted there were four versions of the L100, JBL added and dropped the "Century" moniker at will throughout the line (and others.) L100 inline. L100 offset. L100A (early) L100A (late) That said, the L100=L100A=4310=4311 (mostly)
