"Three Little Kittens" is a British language nursery rhyme, in all likelihood with roots in the British folk tradition. The rhyme as published today however is a sophisticated piece usually attributed to American poet Eliza Lee Cabot Follen (1787–1860). With the passage of time, the poem has been absorbed into the Mother Goose collection.
The poem is first recorded in The Child's Song Book published in 1830. It's Raining, It's Pouring: United States 1912 [53] The first two lines of this rhyme can be found in "The Little Mother Goose", published in the United States in 1912. Booklist's review of Three Little Kittens stated "Throughout, the sense of play is fun and contagious, the threat of punishment gentle but firm, and the rhyme limited yet effective.", [1] and Horn Book Guide wrote "Young readers will get wrapped up in the light, relatable-to-kids dramatics.".

This book tells the story of three little kittens, Mittens, Tom Kitten and Moppet, who get into mischief. Their mother, Mrs. Tabitha Twitchit, grooms and dresses them up for company she is expecting, then sends them out with the admonishment that they not get dirty. They not only do get dirty but lose their clothes to some passing puddle-ducks.
