Designated. 8 April 1999. St. George's (Anglican) Round Church is a wooden round church in the neo-Classical Palladian style located in Halifax Regional Municipality in Downtown Halifax. Construction on the church began in 1800 thanks in large part to the financial backing of the British royal family.
The church opened as St. George the Martyr Anglican Church on November 9, 1845, on land donated by the Boulton family (who lived in The Grange). It was the third Anglican parish in the city, after St. James's and Trinity. The Gothic Revival style church with 150-foot spire was designed by Henry Bowyer Lane. [3]
The original St. George's parish church was a wooden building constructed in 1792 located across from what is now Kingston Market Square, and was the first church built in the Kingston area. [ 3] John Stuart was the Rector. The present church building was constructed at another location (King St. at Johnson St.) during the years 1825–1828.
