Darlington Woods was a popular hunting spot for residents of the town of Darlington. Deer, pheasant, quail, and rabbits are all plentiful in the area. The Darlington Covered Bridge resides on the southern edge of the wood and was built in 1868.
Twenty-five years later, all of Oliver Johnson's Woods was designated a historic district and added to the Register because of its architecture and local historical importance. John Wood Old Mill, also known as Wood's Mill and John Wood Mill, is a historic sawmill and grist mill located at Merrillville, Lake County, Indiana. It was built in 1837–1838, and is a 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story, rectangular brick building. It has a gambrel roof with overhanging eaves. The mill operated into the 1930s.
