The inaugural edition was launched in 2014 by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and was contested by 10 teams from June to July. The cup was played in a 9-a-side format with two halves of 25 minutes. [1] The following teams participated at the inaugural 9-a-side edition with their division in the group stage. [2]
The competition was publicly announced in September 2024, and is meant to be a qualification tournament for the 2025 PFF Women's League season. [3] [4] Coca-Cola Philippines serve as the title sponsor. [5] [6] The tournament was projected to have ten match days, most of them to be played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila. [4]
The Philippine women's national football team was established in the 1980s and has been a regular participant in the AFC Women's Asian Cup since their first appearance in 1981, back when the tournament was known as the AFC Women's Championship. The Philippines hosted the tournament in 1999, with matches played in Iloilo and Bacolod.
