Stanly County is a county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 62,504. [1] Its county seat is Albemarle. [2] Stanly County comprises the Albemarle, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Charlotte-Concord, NC-SC Combined Statistical Area.
The bridge carries traffic on North Carolina Highway 24/27/73 across the river and Lake Tillery from Stanly County to Montgomery County. Swift Island Bridge , the water's old crossing parallels the newer two-lane bridge which accompanies it; the older bridge is a narrow one-lane concrete arch bridge built in 1922.
Badin is located on the south end of Badin Lake which is a reservoir formed by damming the Yadkin River. North Carolina Highway 740 passes through the town. Albemarle is four miles to the southwest and New London is six miles to the northwest.
Locust is located in southwestern Stanly County. Through annexations, the city limits now extend west into Cabarrus County. Locust is bordered by the town of Stanfield to the south. The center of Locust is at the intersection of combined North Carolina Highway 24/27 with North Carolina Highway 200.
