The cemetery is situated on what was previously part of the David Hill land claim that was recorded on July 4, 1847. [2] Hill died in 1850, and in 1860 the Masonic Order and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) established a cemetery on the current site. Eugene Pioneer Cemetery (also Pioneer Memorial Cemetery and Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) Cemetery) is a pioneer cemetery in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It is one of the three oldest cemeteries in Eugene. It is the largest in both acreage and burials encompassing 16 acres (65,000 m 2) with approximately 5,000 burials.
The cemetery lies on both the northeast and southeast corners of the junction of 180th Avenue NE and NE 180th Street. The initial .5 acres (0.20 ha) of land for the cemetery was provided by George Rutter Wilson for the burial of his children. He transferred ownership to the local Odd Fellows lodge in 1902. The city took over the cemetery in 1990.
