Ella Wallace Raines (August 6, 1920 [1] – May 30, 1988) was an American film and television actress active from the early 1940s through the mid-1950s. Described as "sultry" and "mysterious", the green-eyed star [2] appeared frequently in crime pictures and film noir, but also in drama, comedy, Westerns, thrillers, and romance.
Born in 1916 [1] in Grants Pass, Oregon, [2] Raines was the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs Henry Savage of San Antonio, Texas. The Savages had a riding stable across the road from an orphans home where Raines was.
As manager of the Caltech instrument shop, Sturdivant helped Pauling and Corey build their prototypes of the space-filling molecular models. [15] He was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Physical Society, and the American Crystallographic Association. [1] A lecture hall at Caltech is named "J. Holmes Sturdivant".
