On July 21, 2023, the OMB delineated four combined statistical areas, ten metropolitan statistical areas, and six micropolitan statistical areas in South Carolina. [1] As of 2023, the largest of these is the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, SC CSA , comprising the area around Greenville in the state's Upcountry .

Mauldin is located south of the center of Greenville County, between the city of Greenville to the northwest and Simpsonville to the southeast. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.13 square miles (31.4 km 2), of which 12.07 square miles (31.3 km 2) is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km 2) (0.49%) is water.
