Gumby was created by Art Clokey in the early 1950s after he finished film school at the University of Southern California (USC). I'm surprised there's no mention of Eddie Murphy's version of the Gumby character from when he was a performer on Saturday Night Live. I do understand he wasn't perhaps "officially" performing as Gumby, but he did put on a costume that looked like the actual Gumby character.
