Ariel Durant (/ d ə ˈ r æ n t /; May 10, 1898 – October 25, 1981) [1] was a Ukrainian-born American researcher and writer. She was the coauthor of The Story of Civilization with her husband, Will Durant .
The Story of Civilization (1935–1975), by husband and wife Will and Ariel Durant, is an 11-volume set of books covering both Eastern and Western civilizations for the general reader, with a particular emphasis on European (Western) history.
During the late 1920s, Durant's son, Russell Clifford (Cliff) Durant and his third wife, Lea Gapsky Durant, started construction on a personal castle and private airstrip in Roscommon, Michigan, along the south branch of the Au Sable River.
