The 1966 Venice flood (Italian: Alluvione di Venezia del 1966) was an unprecedented high water, known in Venice as an "acqua alta", with waters reaching up to 194 cm.
The high-water mark hit 74 inches late on Tuesday, meaning more than 85% of the city was flooded.
Directed by Franco Zeffirelli, it is Zeffirelli's only documentary, and features the only known film footage of the flood. The film is 50 minutes long, and was produced by RAI. Released less than a month after the disaster, the film reputedly raised more than $20 million for the reconstruction efforts. [1]
