The long & the short of what I'm saying is, I guess, that Dungeons & Dragons isn't neccisarily the same as Dungeons & Dragons. I don't know of any citation guides for games, though. This guideline is silent on the topic of whether book series (like The Chronicles of Amber) and video game series (like Dance Dance Revolution) titles should be italicized, like individual books and video games. Predominant practice seems to be to italicize both, but I haven't done an exhaustive survey, especially with regard to book series.
For example, non-English names listed as translations in the lead of an article should be italicized, e.g. Nuremberg (German: Nürnberg). Non-English names of works should be italicized just like those in English are, e.g. Les Liaisons dangereuses.
A wavy underline (simplified Chinese: 书名号; traditional Chinese: 書名號; pinyin: shūmínghào; literally, "book title mark") serves a similar function, but marks names of literary works instead of proper names.
Some titles of major works will reference other titles of major works; some of the former will even go so far as to literally italicize the latter on their covers and cover pages.
