The AFI Docs (formerly Silverdocs) documentary film festival was an American international film festival.Created by the American Film Institute and the Discovery Channel, it was held annually in Silver Spring, Maryland and Washington, D.C., [1] [2] [3] from 2003 to 2022, when it was merged into AFI Fest, a Los Angeles-based film festival.
For ten days in June the Main Event celebrates the artistic, cultural, social and historical values of French film. The Winter Shorts Fest (since 2008) presents the César Award-nominated short films. The Minifest (since 2014) is a one-day miniature festival held in the fall. The Virtual Cinema presents first-run films and our festival events.

From 1968 to 1971, AFI researched film production between 1921 and 1930 (i.e., the 1920s). The first AFI Catalog was published thereafter in 1971 by the University of California Press; the publication featured, as encyclopedic volumes, the records for every American feature film released during the 1920s' period. In 2017, BECOMING AFI: 50 Years Inside the American Film Institute, written with James Hindman, was published. The book covers the history of the AFI and how it evolved from 1965 to the present. [6] In 2014, she edited THE AFI CONSERVATORY: Toni Vellani on the Practice of Filmmaking compiled by Gary Winick, AFI Class of 1986.
