Bay Shore is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Islip, New York, United States. It is situated on the South Shore of Long Island , adjoining the Great South Bay . The population of the CDP was 29,244 at the time of the 2020 census.
Bay Shore station was built by the South Side Railroad of Long Island (SSRRLI) on May 20, 1868 as Penataquit station only to be renamed Bay Shore station in July 1868. It was replaced in 1882 and replaced again on July 17, 1912, in the style typical of stations such as Riverhead , Manhasset , Northport , and Mineola .
