The present Columbus Zoo opened in 1927 as Riverside Park on 21-acres by the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir. [12] The zoo was initially conceived by Harry P. Wolfe, owner of the Columbus Dispatch , and the Columbus Mayor on a trip to the St. Louis in 1920 where they visited the zoo.

Franklin Township is a civil township in Portage County, Ohio, United States. It is on the Cuyahoga River in Northeast Ohio on the western edge of the county. The 2010 Census found 5,527 people in the township and the 2020 census recorded 6,283 people.
Visitors can spend as much time in the preserve as they wish, observing and feeding the animals, before proceeding to the walk through part of the park, called Safari Junction. The park is closed during the winter. [1] The park considers itself to be one of the leaders in conservation efforts for the animals it supports.
