    Should tweak the wording to clarify. I see lower in the body, it is definitely cause-and-efffect, so maybe something like "The consequences of the riot led Murray to retire ... " or similar? The WP article on the riot says "The following year, Murray resigned in protest of the Board of Inquiry's findings."
